120 year old church Heritage Listed Category 2 in Hawera desperately needs a new roof to protect the historically important interior.
Hawera, Taranaki
St Mary's Anglican Church, Hawera was built in 1903 in the typical 19th Century Gothic Revival style with steep-pitched gabled roof, bell turret, buttressed walls, lancet windows. The interior has a rich contrast of plain plastered walls, rimu timber panelling and native timber pillars and trusses. It is a tall soaring place with Gothic details. Many fine stained glass windows enrich the interior including the 3 part Peace Window commemorating the end of World War 1. St Mary's Church is a Heritage Listed Category 2 building with deep significance to Hawera and the South Taranaki region. Many memorial plaques from smaller churches have been relocated to the interior of St Mary's especially the Rolls of Honour from World War 1 and 2. https://nzhistory.govt.nz/media/photo/st-marys-memorial-boards-hawera Sadly, the current roof has reached the end of its life and needs to be replaced. It is leaking badly and the beautiful timberwork inside is now under treat of staining and much worse. Please help us keep the weather out and preserve this beautiful old church for coming generations.

A new roof and restoration of the exterior to make the building weathertight. If we receive more than we need for this work, we will use any surplus to refurbish the interior and replace the driveway.
