Riding across the country to celebrate and promote WellBeing in all situations of our life and to raise money for Far North Hospice.
Nationwide
On 22nd December 2023 I received the news nobody wants for Xmas - I had cancer. Having worked in human performance and health my whole life, I was determined to find out what I could do to make the journey I was now on, as positive as possible. It involved some deep, dark, and hard places, but the experience of preparing for, undergoing, and recovering from my prescribed treatment, actually resulted in finding greater wellbeing than I had ever experienced. On reflection, 2024 turned out to be one of the best years of my life and in 2025 I am making good on a promise I made to myself during treatment - Refining and sharing my wellbeing philosophy and experience with as many people as possible, to increase the number of flourishing, thriving, "Well Beings" in the world. I have started the website https://www.wellbeing.nz to begin doing this and am going to ride the Kōpiko Aotearoa route http://www.touraotearoa.nz/p/kopiko.html (approximately 1100kms & 16000m of climbing) across the widest part of the country, to launch the platform and celebrate the anniversary of completing treatment. I will use this opportunity to raise funds for an organisation that despite it's remote location and limited funds, contributes massively to the wellbeing of people that weren't as fortunate as I was to receive a curative treatment; and instead have entered the last phase of their life - Far North Hospice.
The Far North is a very special place for me and my wellbeing and I hope this small gesture can contribute to the wellbeing of the people who are in the process of leaving this world there.
The money will cover the basic costs of the trip (registration, transport to & from, food, & any incidental gear repair or camping costs) and an as large as possible donation to Far North Hospice
We made it… 30 March 2025
Tihei mauri ora! Nga mihi ki a koutou katoa…
We got there whanau. Me and my bro got to the end of the ride, my parent’s motorhome (& mum’s nerves) survived the mountain passes, narrow roads & 4wd tracks, Dad completed his 50km rides each day, and we as a collective have exceeded my fundraising target💪🏽❤️🙏🏽. The extra money is a blessing as I grossly underestimated the cost to do the trip. Damian, my parents and I had an amazing adventure with lots of deep thought, growth & connection. I hope I was able to share some of that with you all through my posts and media coverage we got. This page will be open for a few more days, so if you can prompt others to add to it by sharing it or promoting it any capacity that would be amazing❤️. Thanks again for joining my journey🙏🏽. You can stay updated with what Im up to on my website www.wellbeing.nz
