Wellywood BYC Club Fundraising

Who:

Team: Vanessa Alty and Matt Knarston. Adventure enthusiasts, former employees of KPMG Wellington and currently working at KPMG Norway. Wellywood Backyard Cricket (BYC) Club is our team name for the Rickshaw Run.

Charities: Life Flight and Cool Earth. Life Flight is a charity providing emergency air services in the Wellington region. Cool Earth works alongside indigenous villages to halt rainforest destruction.

What:

The Rickshaw Run! A 3,500km pan-Indian adventure in a 7 horsepower glorified lawnmower. Also known as a tuk tuk, auto rickshaw and mototaxi. No set route, no back-up, no way of knowing if you're going to make it. The only certainty is that you will get lost, you will get stuck and you will break down.

Where and when:

The Rickshaw Run starts in Jaisalmer and finishes in Shillong. The Run lasts for two weeks in April 2015.

Why:

There is no sensible answer to why we have entered this event. We are raising money for Life Flight because they are a great organization that have helped over 22,000 people in their time of need. That includes us when Van was injured on a canyoning trip in the Tararuas and we were stuck between waterfalls in the wop wops. Cool Earth is the Rickshaw Run's chosen charity who put indigenous people back in control of the world’s most endangered rainforests.
