Help Weymouth by supporting our community project to install security cameras.
Auckland
The Weymouth Residents and Ratepayers Society would like to install security cameras to help prevent crime in Weymouth. Unfortunately many vehicles are stolen to commit further crime, such as burglaries and robberies. A camera system which identifies stolen vehicles can notify local residents and police immediately. This project will benefit all members of the Weymouth community and will help to reduce crime such as burglaries and the dumping of stolen cars.
The security camera system we would like to install is based on a the system already being used to great effect in Wattle Downs. So far they have already detected 5 stolen vehicles this month. Their footage has also helped police investigate other crimes in the area.
Why we really need your help:
Unfortunately security camera systems are not free. The Weymouth Residents and Ratepayers Society hopes to pay for the some of the camera system with grants. If we can raise a portion of the costs from residents and businesses in the local community it would really help our funding application as it shows we have lots of local support.
How you can help:
Any donation that you can make is really useful. The more donations we receive, the more we can show that the people of Weymouth really support this project.
Once the camera installation is complete, police will be notified of stolen vehicles. Alerts about stolen vehicles will also be posted on the Weymouth Community noticeboard on Facebook.
Project progress so far:
A location has been selected for the camera installation and the camera system designed to monitor incoming and outgoing traffic from Weymouth. We also have the support of a local business which has offered to provide free power and internet access for the camera installation.
We hope to raise $2000 from the local community towards the cost of the cameras. The money raised from this project will be used to pay for some of the camera installation with the rest coming from grants.
