Wheels4Life Colombia Bike Project June 2019

I’m doing a charity project in Colombia next June in collaboration with an international non-profit organization called Wheels4Life (wheels4life.org), whose main scope is to provide bicycles for people in developing countries in need of transportation to get to work or to school, including health care workers.

I have already collaborated with W4L in 2017 for a similar project in Guatemala where I donated bikes to students of a charitable school (https://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/news/wellington/96014487/children-in-central-america-getting-a-helping-hand-from-wellington-mountain-bikers )

This year we identified the recipient in a non-profit foundation in a form of a art school/theater called "La Casa Naranja" ( www.casanaranjateatroalbarrio.com ) located in the poorest suburb of Cali, Colombia.

They have more than 70 young students learning about different arts such as theater, music, dance, and circus techniques. Their artistic workshops are free for all children from 7 to 18 years.

The aim of the project is to fund-raise the purchase bicycles for these students. Some of them live reasonably far from the school and this would facilitate them to reach school, as well as create further alternative activities, that considering the high-risk area they live is very important.

Buying the bikes locally would not only support the local economy and link the school to a shop for technical assistance in the future but would also avoid shipping and custom costs.

Unfortunately I am not able to bring used/old bikes over as it would make the whole logistic very complicated, as well as the cost of shipping and customs.
