Help Abu and his family find safety

  • 1 week to go: What's next?

      26 June 2024

Thank you so much for donating to help Abumedian and his family find safety.

They all have passports now thanks to the donations, however leaving has proved more challenging than Abumedian expected.

Yesterday the RSF launched a fresh attack on the area and villages surrounding Sennar where Abumedian is currently, and there was shelling inside Sennar city. The city remains under the control of the Sudanese Armed Forces but the RSF hold territory now outside the city.

With less than a week left 'til the page closes, if you're able to donate again please consider it. It's a very challenging time for him and his family right now.

After hearing many reports of a lack of food and healthcare plus safety concerns (looting and robbery) at the camps in Ethiopia he'd planned to take his family too Abumedian decided against that option.

Unfortunately Egypt has made it increasingly difficult/impossible for Sudanese to obtain visas and the authorities, with funding from the EU, have started rounding up and sending back to Sudan any Sudanese immigrants they find.

Abu's chatted with a mutual former colleague who was recently smuggled into Egypt.

He is looking at Libya as an option, but a quick Google will show you that Sudanese refugees everywhere are struggling with a lack of access to safety, food and Healthcare wherever they've gone. And the situation in Sudan continues to decline making staying even less of a viable option.

  • What's next for Abu and his family?

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated. I've made the first transfer to Abu and your generosity has meant he has been able to apply for passports for his wife and children.

As the violence around his current town escalates, this is the first step towards leaving the country and finding safety. His next step will be to apply for visas and arrange travel.

This will all cost more than has currently been donated - if you are able to share this page and Abu's story, or are able to donate again please do. Your help is so very much appreciated by Abumedian, his family and myself.

    Thanks

  • Leaving Sudan - What comes next?

      31 March 2024

Abumedian is hoping to leave Sudan with his family after Ramadan, either to Ethiopia or Egypt.

The UN is predicting a big famine in Sudan due to the war, and Abu's said his general position is worsening.

For 5 passports the cost is 750 000 SDG, approx $1250 US dollars, and visas and airfares are another $2000 US dollars.

Please share this page around and let's try to raise as much money as we can to support Abumedian's hope to take his family to safety.

    Thank you.
