Port Charles kiwi listening platform vandalised and call tower stolen.
Waikato
UPDATE... We've just received a quote ($2,500+GST) to replace the call box. We've still got some way to go to raise these funds!
As some of you may be aware, the kiwi call tower on the MEG Kiwi Listening Platform at Port Charles was chainsawed off the platform and stolen on 28th December 2018 . This tower, which emits either a female of male kiwi call when a button is pushed, cost Moehau Environment Group thousand's of dollars, and many hours of fundraising! Not to mention it is enjoyed by locals and tourists alike who stop to use the platform to hear kiwi calling out through the Valley below... What better way to raise awareness of our National bird than people learning to recognise it's call and then actually hearing the real thing!
We need to replace this popular attraction and need your help to do so, any size donation would be hugely appreciated. Let's get the kiwi calling again...
The money raised will go towards the purchase and installation of a new call tower at the Port Charles kiwi listening platform. Any surplus funds raised will be used to protect kiwi in the wild.
