Help Willie Newton recover from a hit and run accident
Greytown, Wellington
In the early hours of Sunday 25th June our much loved Greytown Football Club member William (aka Big Willie, or Wills) Newton was the victim of a hit and run on SH2 in Greytown. Willie was struck by a vehicle and left laying face down on the side of the road, until he was found by a passing motorist. Willie suffered severe injuries and was flown to Wellington hospital in a critical condition.
Willie's injuries include a badly broken arm in several places, leg and ankle injuries, broken ribs, head and facial injuries including broken teeth. The fact Willie has survived and is fighting his way back from this, is testament to his grit and determination that we see from him on the football field each week, and something for which we are all extremely thankful for.
Willie faces a long and arduous road to recovery ahead of him. Willie should've been starting a new job today, but instead he underwent over 5 hours in an operating theatre undergoing surgery to repair his extremely broken body.
Willie plays for our Capital 3 team, and played a starring role from the bench on Saturday against Naenae. Willie is also a highly valued club committee member and gives freely of his time to our club.
The purpose of this page is to remove any financial pressure for Willie so that he can focus solely on his road to recovery without any unnecessary financial worries.
Your contribution, no matter how large or small, is truly valued by our GFC family.
