To help willy wonkers recovery

Taranaki

Willy wonker as known by the rotorua animal control and central city vets rotorua has captured many hearts.

This wee pup was found wondering by Maia on the 15th of june down paradise valley road, Rotorua.

He was found with a severe head wound to the left side of his jaw which was described as horrific.Flesh was visible, aswell as bone with a vial smell of rotting flesh and very skinny.

Maia posted him on lost and found rotorua pets, and seeked medical advice. Unfortunately it being the weekend with vet clinics closed, it was here he had to be surrendered to animal control.

Seeing willy wonkers story i immediately emailed the animal control stating if his owner did not come forth I would love to adopt him. Not aware of what was to come.

He was admitted to the vets in rotorua were his condition was described with a chronic head wound, that was several days old. Swelling with neurological defects as a result of pressure from his facial wound. He was treated and released to animal control for the remainder of his recovery.

No microchip was present. Emails and calls were exchanged regularly throughout his stay in rotorua.

21st of june Willy wonker had not recovered as well as expected. A revisit to the vets was needed. He had developed swelling on his right lower jaw. With enlarged lymph nodes. But fortunately had gained 600g. An increase in his medication was advised.

By the 24th of june no owner had come forth, I started making arrangements to adopt.

25th of june I received a call from animal control with heartbreaking news. It was said that willy wonker had not improved and he has suspected osteodystrophy a rare condition (rubbery bones) and it may be best for him that he be euthanized. But if willing to I could still adopt. Straight on the phone to the vet, I was informed on his condition. After many thoughts I decided to go ahead with adoption, regardless of the outcome.

27th First time meeting willy wonker.

He walked out of the hall with his head tilted. Awkward walk and tail wagging.

He is much smaller than he looks.

Seeing his condition first hand brought me to tears.

Although his health had deteriorated over the past 2 weeks. He did not let this affect him.It was here at the vet clinic I knew I made the right choice.

28th of june he is now being seen at vets4pets new plymouth. He had his first appointment today. An xray confirmed he has the bones of a 90 year old. Any knock or sudden fall could cause his bones to break. This is due to severe malnutrition. He is booked in for surgery on 2nd of July.

His prognosis is yet to be determined.Until further test are done.He will need on going regular visits in order for us to get his health back on track. He has the sweetest nature for a puppy that has not been given the best start to life.He is very determined and has not let his condition/miss treatment affect him.

I have had many ask to set up a give a little page in able to help.

Which I am so grateful for.

If you could help in anyway possible, it is truly appreciated.
