New Zealand Stands in solidarity with Iranian women
Auckland
We have raised over $12K in 7 days, we have increased the target to $20,000 and hope the extra funds will cover us for more billboards.
The brave people of Iran are risking their lives and livelihood for a brighter future; a revolution is unfolding.
On September 13, Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Kurdish-Iranian woman was travelling to the capital city of Tehran to visit relatives when the so-called morality police arrested her for “improperly” wearing her mandatory hijab. In the police van, she was beaten so severely that she went into a coma. Three days later she died from her horrific injuries. Mahsa's death has ignited protests and condemnation from Iranians around the world denouncing her death and the regime that imposed it.
Iran’s recent protests are referred to as a feminist revolution. Young, fearless women and girls as young as 10 years old are taking off their headscarves and setting them on fire in front of massive line-ups of riot police forces. They are demanding freedom and their basic human rights.
These protests have now gone beyond all divides, and men in large numbers are supporting these fierce women. Even in small cities where many residents hold more traditional beliefs, everyone chants ‘Women, Life, Freedom!’
Here in Aotearoa New Zealand we want to support and amplify the first-ever feminist revolution of our time by renting digital billboards in Auckland and raising awareness about the situation in Iran.
