Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou katoa!

I apologise for not updating my Anal Cancer journey sooner but ... it has been some journey!

Unfortunately, I developed toxification from the new chemotherapy so it was decided to stop due to a high risk of a heart attack.  Over the coming weeks, my tumours grew extremely fast and tumour markers rose, which told us that immunotherapy was also not working.  As a result, all treatment has been stopped.  😞  We had hopes that immunotherapy may give us another year or so but it seems that the cancer loves my body too much.  🙄

I am no longer with the Oncology team at Palmerston North Hospital but fully in the hands of the palliative team at Arohanui Hospice for pain and sympton management.  The new time scale is possibly 6 months but may be as short as a couple of short months. I, of course, will be aiming for longer than these time frames.  🙂

We as a whānau have had lots tears and experienced an emotional rollercoaster as we navigate this new part of our lives together.   As devastating as it is, it has been a great opportunity to prioritise things so that we can try and enjoy our whānau time left.

We would like to thank each and every one of you for all of your aroha, manaakitanga, whanaungatanga, and $$$.  Your koha enabled us to pay towards one immunotherapy treatment which meant the world to us. 😍  Thank you, thank you all again.

Ngā mihi nui maioha ki a koutou katoa!

Ngā mihi nui maioha ki a koutou katoa! Huge amounts of appreciation to all of you!

I have been so extremely humbled by your thoughts, messages, and sharing of my post to raise more awareness of Anal Cancer. I am extremely grateful for all of your donations - wow! Almost $6,000 will pay for 2/3 of one cycle of immunotherapy which is just amazing. 🙂

I have just started my fourth round chemotherapy and completed two cycles of immunotherapy. I wanted to share some photos of me being supported by my 'little' brother who travelled from Alba/Scotland this last week. We haven't seen each other since our mother passed of pancreatic cancer in 2015 so it is a super special time together now. 🙂 As the baby of the family, his nick name is 'Boo Boo Bear', a name he has come round to over the years 🤣 and replicated in his T shirt of support.

Scans in the coming weeks will give us some idea of the impact of chemo and immuno ... wish me luck! 🙂

    Aroha nui e te whānau!

    Much love and deep affection

    Michelle and whānau! Xxx
