This year I have been lucky enough to have been selected as one of 360 people from around the world to represent NZ to participate in the World Merit 360 program in August 2017 to assist in writing action plan 003.
The program will be held in the United Kingdom from August 26th-September 5th 2017.
World Merit is a program bringing 360 young global citizens from all over the world together to develop an action plan to tackle the United Nations Sustainable development goals (SDG’s) and also known as global goals. The action plan will be presented at the Houses of Parliament in London to afterwards be implemented collaboratively all across the world to make positive change.
World Merit is an organization fighting complex global issues by building confidence, raising aspiration and connecting young diverse citizens of merit.
World merit 360 is an opportunity to change the world through the United Nations sustainable development goals and being able to implement these goals within communities all around the world.
Sustainable development goals (or otherwise known as global goals) are universal goals to call action to end poverty, protect the planet and help ensure all people of enjoy peace and prosperity for future generations to come.
There are 17 goals that all inter connect with each other and all goals are as important as each other but the goal (alongside my team) will be representing is sustainable development goal #3: Good Health and Wellbeing.
Sustainable development goal good health and wellbeing aims to ensure healthy lives and promote wellbeing for all at all ages.
Natalie’s specific focus within tackling global goal number 3: Good health and wellbeing will be based around mental health, mental illness and mental wellbeing advocacy.
In order to develop the most effective Action Plans we will be joined by experts, NGO’s, world leaders, world merit patrons and ambassadors, and senior UN Representatives. Previous world merit events have included Richard Branson, Malala Yousafzai, Giancarlo Espositio, Sir Ken Robinson, Youth Envoy Ahmad Alhendawi, and Lord Michael Hastings.
More information can be found in Natalie’s youtube video and or on the world merit website which are both linked.
Being an individual who studies Sport and Exercise, values good health and wellbeing and regularly advocates through my social media platforms about mental health plus being someone who has been thought their own personal mental distress, I feel I am a suitable candidate to be representing NZ and the Good Health and Wellbeing goal later this year.
I strongly believe that mental health, mental wellbeing and mental illness are important areas that need to be discussed more within society. More needs to be done to assist in combating mental health stigma today to give a better future for those tomorrow.
