Support our awesome fundraisers walking and running the 12ks of Christmas to raise money for Project Island Song!

Northland

The most run-derful time of the year is almost here again!

After an incredible first year in 2024, with 8 walkers & runners raising $15,000 for Project Island Song, the 12ks of Christmas is back for 2025!

Could you take on the challenge to really step into Christmas with us this time? Or make a donation to support our awesome team!

What is the 12ks of Christmas?

We’re offering two options to those wanting to take part - the Traditional or the Next Level 12k challenge – and will all be taking on the challenge from 1st to 12th December 2025.

The Traditional 12ks of Christmas

This option sees you build up a km of walking or running for 12 days straight. So, day one you complete 1km, day two you complete 2km, day three you complete 3km and so on until the final day where you complete 12km, a fantastic achievement and a total of 78km across the 12 days!

The Next Level 12ks of Christmas

For the hardcore amongst you, this option means completing 12km of walking or running each day for 12 days straight. That’s an epic 144km in total, which does have a nice association to the Project as there are 144 islands in the Bay of Islands, seven of which are pest-free thanks to the efforts of our community over the past 15 years.

How you can take part

If this sounds like something you’re keen to be part of then:

1. Scroll down and click Participate.

2. Our template content will automatically appear for you, so you just need to edit this to include your name in the title, and select which version of the 12ks challenge you'll be taking on.

3. Hit Publish and start sharing the message, collecting your own sponsors to add to the total, and get training!

Prefer to support without all that running?

Please consider chipping in to support our runners and walkers in any way you can - maybe $12 - a dollar for each day, $78 a dollar for each km for those completing the Traditional challenge or $144 a dollar for each km for those completing the Next Level challenge.

Whatever you can afford will make a difference. Thank you and Meri Kirihimete from the team at Project Island Song!

We just reached our $12,000 goal on Day 3!  3 December 2025

Oh my goodness - after an absolutely colossal day yesterday for Give a Little Day, with more than $6,600 donated in 24 hours, we can’t quite believe that we have just reached our initial goal of $12,000 on the morning of Day 3!

Thank you so much to everyone who has already donated to support our amazing runners and walkers. We’re completely blown away by the number of people getting behind the 12ks this year.

A big welcome to our newest participants - Elsie, Kevin, Michelle, Rachel, Sandra, Sarah, and Steph.

We’ve now got a whopping 20 people taking part which is fantastic, and between them they will be walking or running a combined 2,166km by 12th December!

This is longer than the length of New Zealand (1,600km), and just slightly more than the distance between Sydney and Auckland (2,156km)!

What now? Well with 9 days of walking and running still to go, we have just raised the overall goal to $20,000.

Can we get there? We really don’t know but we hope so! This would be a truly phenomenal amount of money to raise for our collective mahi on the islands.

Please continue to get behind all our participants, especially as the feet start to blister and the legs begin to tire! Spread the word to friends and family, walk alongside them (literally or figuratively), and be cheerleaders for their awesome efforts. Your support will keep them going.

Spare an extra thought for all our participants today who may have to time their runs/walks well to avoid getting very soggy!
