AGS Distance Squad 1000 Miler in support of Key to Life.
Auckland
The 1,000 Miler was created in 1975 by Brien McCrea when he was a teacher at Wellington College. Brien moved to Auckland Grammar in 1998 and the event was enthusiastically embraced by the Grammar community.
The event, held every four years, will take place at Auckland Grammar from April 12-16 as part of the School’s 150 year celebrations and giving back programme. It will involve present students, Old Boys, past/present staff members and high profile community and sporting personalities.
The runners will run a 1km circuit around the grounds of the School and the aim is to run 1000 miles, in relay within 100 hours (approximately 4.5 days). 100% of all funds raise from the event will go to The Key of Life charitable trust, run by Mike King, the 2019 New Zealander of the Year.
The event creates its own collective spirit, unique character and becomes one of the major memories of a student’s time at Auckland Grammar. The event installs many positive attributes in the young men taking part - they quickly learn the art of setting personal goals and the importance of working as a team.
