Running for 12 hours in memory of Onieka and in honour of Te Omanga Hospice
Lower Hutt, Wellington
On 13 September, I’ll be taking on a 12-hour endurance event where I’ll run as many kilometres as I can around a 1 km circuit. I will be doing this in memory of my beautiful sister Onieka, who passed earlier this year, and to raise funds for the wonderful Te Omanga Hospice, where she was cared for in her final days.
I’m now 52, and while I did my fair share of ultra running in the past, those days are far behind me and I have very little time left to train. But I will do my best and every $ € £ raised will help motivate me that extra bit further!
If you’re able to donate, whatever the amount, I would be incredibly grateful.
Thank you for supporting Te Omanga Hospice and for helping me do something positive in memory of Onieka.
Smashed it for Te Omanga Hospice! 2 October 2026
So, I was quite nervous when I started this venture. What if no one donated? That would be a lot of pressure on me to run around in circles for many hours!
But I knew it was for a good cause, so I went ahead — and I’ve been completely blown away by the support. I originally thought I might raise around $1,000, so the amount raised has far exceeded my expectations. Thank you, thank you, thank you! ❤️
In the end, I managed to run 55 km in 1 km loops over six hours, at which point my poor body started complaining and I decided it was probably sensible to stop!
I hope my 55 km of running in circles did your very generous donations justice. Thank you so much to everyone who supported me and, most importantly, helped raise such a fantastic amount for a great cause. It really means a lot to me x
