My story began when, I lost a close friend of mine 25 years ago and then a few years later his cousin did the same, who was close to me as well. Fast forward since then I’ve lost 9 people to the illness and know so many near misses that have tried to take their life or had the courage to be open and talk about what it’s like to walk in their shoes with what they are dealing with. This will be the third charity, I have done for this cause.
You don’t know what people are going through from their day to day lives. They may seem they are living the dream but in all reality it’s the opposite which they mask their true self behind the scenes and hide it better then others.
I’ve always stood firmly about the more we talk openly about our feelings and what we go through with this illness- it can become second nature to where it’s okay to speak up and not feel weak and ashamed as most of our Māori and Pacific Islanders not ruling out any ethnicity’s group have huge problems with being open. I use to be one of those people.
We Got You! Come and support the cause! #strongertogther
