~6,000 miles in a Motorcycle Rally - For Aran Animal Rescue

On the 8th September 2022, I'll be heading over to the USA to take part in an Iron Butt Association, motorcycle rally. It is a 6 day long event called the 'Senior Butt Rally', we form teams-of-two riders; one has to be an Iron Butt Rally (IBR) finisher and 55 years or older, the other can be anyone (that's me).

I am lucky to be paired with James Owen, the only person who's ever won the IBR more than once, he's won it twice and finished it seven times! Arguably, there is noone in the world, better for me to learn the art of rally-craft from.

The two of us will have to plan a route, and will then have 6 days of riding around the USA, collecting the bonus points which we've chosen - with the aim of collecting more than anyone else.

There will be a real limit to how much I will be able to share while I'm riding, we won't be stopping for much, other than to fuel and to take photos to collect bonus points. Then we'll be resting for our compulsory 6 hours each day; with very little else happening while we're chasing those bonuses. I'll be writing up my adventures and sharing photos etc, once we're done - as an Aran Sponsor - I'll make sure you have access to those write ups.

Aran Animal rescue is a NZ wide network of active coordinators and helpers, fosterers and adopters for pound rescued dogs (and sometimes some other species too); often dogs are saved from death-row in the pounds and re-homed. Dogs end up in pounds for many reasons, but the most common appears to be neglect.
