800km for Gratitude: Justine’s El Camino Walk for Wellington Free Ambulance

$31,265 of $30,000 goal
Given by 304 generous donors in around 4 months

A personal pilgrimage of love, loss, and legacy — supporting free emergency services for all in the greater Wellington Region.

Wellington

On 1 September 2025, I’ll begin a 40-day walk, commencing in France and across northern Spain, completing the French route of the El Camino de Santiago.

I’m walking for Wellington Free Ambulance - the only emergency ambulance service in the Greater Wellington and Wairarapa region that’s free for everyone, every time. But they rely on raising over $8.5 million each year to stay that way.

This journey is for them - & for Michael.

In December 2023, my soulmate, Michael Haora passed away after an accident in Masterton. At this time I encountered many systems: police, coroner, legal & health authorities. But only one stood out for its compassion, honesty and unwavering support - Wellington Free Ambulance.

They treated me with kindness & empathy. With transparency & dignity. They provided me with the full story, & didn’t leave me looking for answers that were impacting mine & our whānau wellbeing. And that’s a gift I’ll never forget.

I want to walk not only in his memory, but to honour his strength & mana, and to walk with aroha for all those who feel unseen in their grief following such tragic and traumatic circumstances.

The Walk:

- 1 Sept 1 -10 October 2025

- Walking over 800km of the historic El Camino trail in France & Spain

- Sharing stories, videos & reflections along the way

Every step I take is for him and Wellington Free Ambulance and for the next person who needs that same love & care.

Ngā mihi nui — Justine
