Another Incredible Day

‘Another Incredible Day’ is a passion project and fundraising initiative to support Crohns and Colitis New Zealand (CCNZ). I have ulcerative colitis (an inflammatory bowel disease), which had me hospitalised over the new year period for 6 days. While in hospital I had a couple of thoughts; firstly, I want to endeavour to make every single day incredible. Secondly, I had discovered Camp Purple Live, and I knew in my heart this was a cause I wanted to get behind. And thirdly, the lack of energy on leaving hospital terrified me – I felt trapped by my exhaustion.

Throughout last year, I was inspired by Trail Runner New Zealand to run. Sitting on my heart and in my mind is the want and drive to pursue my passion for running, more specifically a marathon, ultra and 102k. The first that I'm attempting is a marathon.

In challenging myself by running a marathon I not only want to push my potential but also raise funds for Camp Purple Live 2020. This is an outdoor camp for children and teenagers with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and through my efforts to run 42k I want to raise $5,000 to enable 4 kids to attend next year.

All my fundraising efforts will be going towards Camp Purple Live 2020. In addition to fundraising, I endeavour to volunteer at the camp next January which will be held at El Rancho on the Kapiti Coast.

At the camp, the kids participate in all sorts of activities; mudslides, raft and bridge building, abseiling, confidence courses, kayaking, air rifles, archery, high swings and team building exercises. This gives them a great opportunity to step outside of their comfort zones. Whilst the camp strives to have a team of 30+ volunteers and professional staff, many of whom have IBD themselves, the camp is only made possible through the generous support of sponsors and donations. All funds I raise will be donated and used to help pay for running costs for Camp Purple Live 2020.
