Participating in Westpac Chopper Appeal Bike Ride 2023
Nationwide
The Westpac Rescue Chopper service is a long running institution across New Zealand.
Thousand of flights are conducted every year saving lives, providing ambulance services to remote locations. As a result, 1000's of New Zealanders have lived from the Choppers getting them to proper medical care in the "golden hour".
As a 38 year employee of Westpac, like many staff, the chopper service is dear to my heart. On top of that my own father survived a serious heart issue in 2001 as a result of a rescue chopper ride.
In 2006 I rode from Kaitaia to Wellington for the chopper - it's about time I dusted off the old kit and put a big effort in! So come 12th May 2023 we're doing a little ride - about 240km from Queenstown to Invercargill via Gore, all in one day.
The biggest challenge is getting me fit enough to do it.....though worth a crack ! I can say the training will hurt and the ride will be worse....so make me suffer and make sure I deliver by donating today!
Result! 2 June 2023
Final count is in! The combined fund raising total for this years ride was $155,193. That's helped to contribute to a massive $909,689 raised over the 12 years the ride has run.
Just massive. Thanks Everyone!

Cheers Matt - she's a good old ride. Surprised how well I pulled up given how limited the training was
Thanks guys much appreciated. Looking at the weather not one of my flashest ideas but hey all adds to to it!
Legend Jim, thank you. . Got a bunch of old and new Westpac faces here you’ll recognise sure !
Thanks Helen, I'll make sure to make the team look good!
Thanks Kate. Ride like the wind sounds like a great idea. Sadly I ride like a fish at present!
