Back to Timor-Leste! Support Volunteer Service Abroad

In February 2020, my partner Viv and I arrived in Timor-Leste where I was doing a volunteer assignment with VSA: We were getting to grips with the local transport, crazy traffic, enjoying amazing food and fantastic coffee!, meeting other volunteers, and meeting the locals…

I’d just finished the first week of my assignment when, Covid closed borders threw us all into a new reality and, we were repatriated to NZ. We were gutted!

Fast forward to winter 2023, and I’m excited to have secured a volunteer role on a 12-month assignment back in Timor-Leste as an IT mentor with VSA’s partner organisation: Red Cross Timor-Leste (known locally as Cruz Vermelha de Timor-Leste or CVTL). I’ll be working with local Red Cross managers and employees to build their skills in developing and maintaining an IT capability, planning for future needs, and providing similar support to other NGOs. As a young country, Timor-Leste is still developing IT capacity, policies and procedures and this role will support present as well as future development in IT capability.

We’ll be travelling to Dili in October/November 2023.
