Mel’s going back to being bald and shaving her head (she was born bald!) to raise funds for Stroke Aotearoa NZ, the birds nest must go!
Auckland
Hey there, I’m Mel — and I’m going bald (again).
I was born bald, and after a recent stroke and brain bleed, I’ve decided it’s time to return to my roots — or lack of them.
After a recent brain bleed, a couple of operations and weeks in hospital, I've ended up with a glorious mess of matted dreadlocks (unfortunately not the fun kind 😕) and a birds nest for any bird to die for, shaving my head is the only way forward in combatting this minor dilemma considering how lucky I have been... So I figure… if I have to lose the hair, why not raise some funds for a cause that means something to me while I’m at it?
I’m shaving it all off to support Stroke Foundation NZ, who help people like me every day as they navigate life after stroke. They’re doing life-saving, life-changing work, and this is my small way of giving back. If anything, a stroke can happen to anyone if us at any time, some coke out luckier than others but it is a game of Russian Roulette but the Stroke Foundation is there for everyone and their rehabilitation.
If you’ve ever wanted to support a great cause and witness a dramatic head transformation, now’s your moment.
Please give a little (or a lot!) — and help me turn this chop into a chance for hope.
Head shave will be live streamed, will update FB etc with details the nearer to my goal being reached.... Absolutely desperate to shave ASAP!
Thanks so much for reading my story and huge thanks in advance with a lot of love, laughs, and soon… a chilly scalp,
Mel
