We are trekking to Everest Base Camp unguided and raising funds for Hospice NZ along the way.
Auckland
In September/October we are heading to Nepal for three weeks to hike to Everest Basecamp (without a guide) before we head back to NZ. While this is an amazing event for us individually, we want it to be more than just our own experience. Nepal is significant for us, particularly for Jess, who travelled there with his Dad and brother just over 13 years ago. In memory of his father, Bruce, and sister, Reigy, who were both cared for by Hospice, and all those who are affected by terminal illnesses requiring palliative care, we would like to fundraise money during our hike, to be donated to Hospice NZ. We have no dollar goal, just a wish that everyone will give something, no matter how small, to go to this incredible service back home. We will document our time in Nepal and after our 14 day trek is done, will have blogs and photos of our time there. We hope our actions, and the collective generosity of our friends and family, can make hard times a little easier for someone in need.
We have had personal incredible experience dealing with hospice in the toughest of times, and know that close friends and family have been in similar situations. Hospice require over $45million in donations to meet running costs every year and we hope in doing this we can provide some assistance.
