Name: Steve “Stevie G” Grenfell.
Title and Company: Chief Executive Officer at Blackwells.
What is your cooking experience? It’s not like I have no experience, you’ll often find me making toast and chucking the odd steak on the barbecue.
What would your signature dish be? See above - sadly it’s probably burnt barbecue steak.
Why are you cooking to help disadvantaged Canterbury children get a fair start in education? As someone who left secondary school early and was almost illiterate, I learned the hard way how important education is in life. It’s just not acceptable to think that in this day and age that some children don’t have equal opportunity.
What does being part of Bayleys Plate Up for a Purpose mean to you and your organisation? Personally, if in some small way I can help children avoid my learning experiences – that would be a wonderful thing. From our company's point of view, Blackwells is a strong contributor to and supporter of the Christchurch City Mission and the Canterbury community in general. Helping this great cause of raising money to put shirts on backs, shoes on feet, books in bags and uniforms for children going to school fits very well with everything we do in the community.
How can the general public help you? Get behind our disadvantaged kids and help them get the start in their schooling that everyone should. Please give what you can, a little goes a long way!
The Christchurch City Mission runs 13 services including the back to school programme, emergency foodbank, separate men's and women's emergency night shelters, addiction counselling, men's and women's day programmes.
Taking business leaders out of their boardrooms and into their community to raise crucial funds for the Mission’s Back to School programme.
