Fighting the good fight: Tom Robson puts his body on the line in the 2017 BFL to honour the memory of a good friend, lost to suicide.
Hawke's Bay
After losing a good friend to suicide in 2016, Tom found himself reassessing his views on mental illness and suicide. He was deeply affected by the sudden death of his mate and decided to confront the issue head on.
Tom has decided to honour his friend in the best way he knows how.....by using his fists to fight.
Tom will be participating in the Battle for Life 2017, boxing his way to increase suicide awareness and prevention, and raising funds for those who know how to make a difference to the frightening statistics.
Tom will let his fists do the talking, putting his skills as a boxer to good use against his BFL opponent. With each jab, hook and overhand, he will tell the story of his personal experience of suicide as well as lay out his hopes for the future for the prevention of further tragedies.

"I am dedicated to doing my part in preventing any more tragedies due to suicide in my community. I can no longer turn a blind eye to such a devastating issue and am willing to do anything I can to increase awareness and prevent suicide. I do this to honor the memory of my friend Reuben and I do this for my children, so that they shall never be without a place to turn in times of darkness". -Tom Robson
