made it over the haast pass but one snapped cable later and i had a single speed bike with a whole lotta hills in front of me. fortunately was able to call in the calvary with cousin hamish giving me a lift into wanaka. total bummer driving through the insanely scenic downhill id been dreaming of with my morning climbing the pass. hoping to jump the queue at a bike shop tomorrow, otherwise it might be a youtube jobby
pulled the pin after cycling through the rain all day, made the mistake of sitting down too long and couldn't quite convince myself the last three big hills to fox were worth the trouble. as far as rain days go it was one of the better ones - traffic wasn't crazy and wind was fine
absolutely wicked rail trail over remutaka. gave the internationals a cultural experience in petone - followed the cyclepath into the sideline of some good old mongrel mob affiliated club rugby. super high energy pushing into the cbd, north island ticked off!
bridge to nowhere was an absolute cracker. 6am start in heavy fog broke to a glorious morning on the big climb. played tour guide again and had a good swim in the mud on the way down, cause man, what an absolute bone shaker of a day on the downhill. picked up by a jet boat from the riverbank before a swim in the whanganui followed by burger and beer.
awesome day on the peloton with some trail buddies from the ferry - we were absolutely hissing on our way back into auckland
fun arvo, beat the worst of the rain to meet some other bikepackers and wait for the ferry
bit of a slog today, think the bikepacking gods cursed me for sleeping in. couple mechanicals, beefed with a magpie, and was too late to see tane mahuta (i do not think trees should have closing times). downhill was absolutely class though, and snack game was immaculate. two thumbs up
big shift on the hills today, mean gravel riding this arvo. nearly biffed it on the downhill and my brake discs were smoking hot, how good
