Stepping out of my comfort zone and aiming to get fit again, whilst raising funds for charity!

Canterbury

I’ll be stepping out of my comfort zone and into the ring come the 31st of August. For the next 9 weeks I’ll be training vigourously in attempt to lose weight and get fit, whilst also helping out charity by raising as much money as possible.

I have chosen The Neonatal Trust as my charity due to having family members and a work colleague needing assistance from them. The Neonatal Trust provides support to families of premature or sick full term babies as they make their journey through neonatal care, the transition home, and onwards. They don’t receive any government funding and are entirely reliant on the generousity of the public.

Jamie’s story   17 July 2018

This is the story of Jamie, my boss and good friends daughter. After hearing this I knew I had chosen the right charity to raise money for.

Jamie Aikman born 24 weeks weighing 460 gm one of the smallest if not the smallest baby to be born. Jamie was rushed to Christchurch Neonatal unit where she stayed fot the next 135 days of her life. Jamie was ventilated and in an incubator. The caring staff looked after our girl as if she was their own. During the night when mum and dad where sleeping. The nurses would take Jamie out of her incubator for cuddles and walks around the unit snapping the odd photo. Jamie’s short 5 months was not without complications and ups and downs. She had numerous infections and was often taken back to the intensive care unit and put back on ventilators to give her lungs a rest. The staff not only caring for her but for Mum and dad also. Jamie went home on the 10th July but unbeknown to us she had caught a virus, her little body couldn’t fight and it was slowly shutting down. Sadly on the 12th july 2000 Jamie passed away. We can never repay the unit for what they did for our little girl and for us.
