Shaving head to help out others in struggle after family went through a similar situation.

Wellington

*** UPDATE *** Head has been shaved (Picture in Gallery), but still accepting donations till the end of the month. Thanks to Beau Lia Hair Art in Carterton for the Shave ***

Hi my name is Bevan and I'm shaving my head for the White Matter Brain Cancer Foundation.

In 2012 my mother was diagnosed with a brain tumour the size of a golf ball, which caused a lot of emotional and financial stress to the family. She had an operation to remove it and the tumour was deemed benign. After getting through that period and carrying on life almost complication free, we have deemed her one of the lucky ones.

Not everyone else is.

In 2015 I broke my hand, and said that I wouldn't cut my hair until I played again. In my first attempt I cracked my shoulder and then in 2016 disaster struck when I dislocated my ankle in such a place that it usually ends in a foot fusion. The doctor told me "You won't play Rugby again, you should aim for walking properly". I wasn't having it, denied the foot fusion and with the help of specialist advice, worked hard and through struggles of learning to walk and then run again, until I got to this point in 2018 when on the last day of the season I played for a local club side.

I got through my little struggle and my mother got through hers, so I want to help others.

My hair has grown over 20 inches long, which is why when it is cut, it will be donated to be made into a wig, for cancer patients or with anyone with other medical difficulties.

+ Brain Cancer kills more children than any other disease.

+ Brain Cancer kills more people under 40 than any other cancer.

Any money donated is in support to the White Matter Brain Cancer Foundation who assist the families and patients who need the money when it matters most
