Facing mental health issues is often a new challenge in a young person’s life, but being brave enough to seek help is not enough, getting access to services is often the biggest challenge of all. Personally, I found counselling a hugely helpful service throughout my high school and university years. As a result, I am passionate about others being able to benefit from professionals while in their formative years. The good news today is that I AM HOPE is working hard to bring about change by providing free face-to-face or online counselling to any young person in New Zealand under the age of 25.

In April, I plan to bike the length of Great Britain, over 1,400km, in my trusty gumboots to raise money for this year’s Gumboot Friday charity fundraiser for I AM HOPE. The average price of a counselling session is NZ$148, so first let's aim to raise NZ$7,400 to sponsor 50 sessions with a mental health practitioner. Tell everyone you know, let's do it.
