Raising funds for the southern district rescue choppers
Southland, Invercargill City
This year Emma and myself are taking part in the Westpac chopper charity ride.
All funds raised go to the Lakes District Air Rescue Trust to support the vital Otago Southland Rescue Helicopter Service. The ride is 235 kms on the 9th May 2025. Last year the fundraising efforts passed the magic million $$$ mark through the 13 rides to date and our goal this year is to fundraise $ 150,000.
We completed it🥳 10 May 2025
Yesterday we completed the Chopper Appeal Ride—230 km in total with 90 riders. The day started off wet and cold, but by the time we reached Five Rivers Café, the weather had begun to clear, lifting everyone’s spirits. Along the way, we stopped at a few rural schools that had also raised money for the Chopper Appeal. It was cool to see their enthusiasm and support.
There were a couple surprises throughout the day, including a low flyover from the rescue chopper itself when leaving Nightcaps an impressive sight that brought everything full circle and reminded us why we were riding. As we rolled back into Invercargill, tired and sore, we were met by friends and family who’d come out to cheer us on. Their support was the perfect way to end a big day on the bike.
