Caity’s 3000km for Cancer

  • Goodbye Northland, hello Auckland Region!

      25 February 2023

After escaping the Northland forests with less skin than I started with, I walked the wrong way through Kerikeri farmland and forestry roads, paddled strenuously from Paihia to Waikare, trenched through the rivers, estuaries, and ocean inlets off the coast of Whangārei, shared a well deserved cocktail in Mangawhai Heads, and climbed the daunting Dome Summit.

    Here are the stats:

    Kilometres walked: 496.4

    Trail tantrums: 4

    Sunrises watched: 3

    Days with dry feet: 0

Number of times I’ve lost my poles: every damn day at least once

  • I survived the Northland Forests!

      19 January 2023

Although I suspect a piece of my soul will remain lost in there forever…

    Here are the stats:

    Total kilometres walked: 215.5

Total kilometres accidentally detoured: approx 8

Amount of skin torn off my body: all of it, it’s gone, I’m in tatters

Total number of falls: 3 in the mud, 2 in the river

Biggest regret: leaving camp an hour after everyone else

Highlight of the track: catching up to other hikers who were suffering just as much as I was

Thing I’m most grateful for: my trekking poles, they literally saved my life multiple times

What I really can’t fathom is this simmering desire to go back and do it all again, I think I need to see a psychiatrist.

  • Cape Reinga to Kaitaia

      30 October 2022

Kia Ora from kilometre marker 115!

I have completed 90 Mile beach, a gruelling 5 days that has left me battered, blistered, and bruised. I am taking a couple days to rest and restock before getting back on the trail.

Thank you so much for your support towards an amazing organisation, I am beyond grateful and hope to make a great difference.
