Once upon a time ... there was a dragon named Smaug who lived in the Lonely Mountain and hoarded treasure.
The inspiration for our structure is Smaug from The Hobbit which New Zealand is often associated with internationally, and the fact that dragons feature heavily in fairy tales and fables throughout time. The theme of the story is to release the treasure through adventure, friendship and collaboration to share the wealth (food) of the dragon to all (City Mission).
Our structure uses over 3,500 cans. We have used a mixture of labels to try and match the colour of the dragon’s body and gold pile. We have also considered the content of the cans, ensuring that the food types will be useful to the City Mission.
We're involved because we wanted to help the Christchurch City Mission to help those in our community who need a hand up.
