Celebration of Marc's Life

Auckland

As many of you know, Marc died on 4th January 2023 after battling with cancer for the past 11 years. He died peacefully with Anna by his side and was surrounded by his closest friends and family

Marc was always full of life and with his positive energy and attitude you would never have known that he has been battling cancer. He has LIVED, in everything he did, he gave it 110% and he touched the lives of so many people all over the world. The love and kindness that he has received from friends and family has been incredible

He was first diagnosed with melanoma at the age of 27 in New Zealand and after treatment decided to go travelling for a number of years. He's been through South America, Europe, Asia and finally settling in Melbourne. During this time his cancer has returned twice and every time he has fought, right until the end!

In honour of him we would like to request no flowers but instead to donate to the Hospice where he lived his final few days. He was made to feel so comfortable and the level of care he received here was unparralled.

With heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at Hibiscus Hospice for the care, respect and kindness shown to my son, Marc, and to us, in Marc's final days. I will always be grateful that his passing was made as comfortable for him as it possibly could be. To my darling son, a huge hole has been left because you had such a huge impact on our lives. I will miss you always. Love you. Mum and Eddie

I'm so sorry to hear this sad news of Marc here in Ireland. I met Marc in 2011 travelling in South America with pals. He was such a fun person to be around and we knew we would have a great time anywhere we went if he was with us! I subsequently met Marc in Melbourne and had a total random chance meeting with him in Dublin a few years ago. What a lovely surprise that was! I have such nice memories of him and am so sad that he had died. Sending love and light to his family, this is so shite!! Thank you for the fun times Marc. Rest in Peace.

Sadly, we never had the pleasure of meeting Marc, but through the generosity of Marc’s family and our niece/ Marc’s partner: Anna, we were honoured to get to know Marc through the proud words and great stories of loved ones at his celebratory funeral service, via streaming, on Thursday 12th... Thanks to Anna, Dad: John, Mum: Susan, sister: Danielle and brother: David, plus many of Marc’s mates (near and far,) we came to know a high octane hard case with a light filled spirit, funny as, smart, fearlessly life-loving and adventurous, great at all kinds of stuff, treasured by everyone who knew him, grumpy (lol,) and just a 100% top guy, who spread love and happiness to everyone around him (and didn’t hesitate to use power tools at 8am!!!) This is also how we learned about the incredible care Marc received from Hibiscus Hospice in his final days, and how beautifully you also supported Marc’s loved ones. This clearly meant everything to Marc’s Mum, his Dad and all the family, Marc’s closest friends, Marc’s partner/ our niece: Anna, our other niece: Kate, and their lovely Mum: Jane. Sincere thanks for making Marc’s final days so special and comfortable. It’s clear Marc’s Mum was spot on about Marc deserving the best, and that no one could have provided better care than Hibiscus Hospice. You guys rock!!! All our thanks and every best wish, always.
