Fundraising for Brain Tumour Support NZ in Brain Tumour Awareness Month: Challenge suggestions welcome!
Christchurch, Canterbury
Yep, I still have a brain tumour. His name is Donald. Please support us as we attempt regular, new and suggested challenges in Christchurch in May. Suggestions in comments! If someone comes up with a really good challenge/fundraising idea, I will do that. Until then, hodgepodge it is - and that’s exactly what recovery is like. I’m learning to roll with it! Please support me as I tackle my raising awareness, work, ballet, running, splits, Going Grey in May and other challenges!
Whatever happens, I’m fundraising for Brain Tumour Support. They’ve provide resources, support and an incredible online community. Their “Brain Box” support kit is my trump card. Every donation is awesome!!!
Donald isn’t malignant, but he was the size of a large mandarin, causing hearing and balance issues and would have killed me. He’s growing around some of my cranial nerves, so we can’t just scoop him out. In January 2021, I had a 6 hour brain surgery. Donald ended up the size of a chick pea! Then I developed hydrocephalus and needed another brain surgery. In December 2021, I was diagnosed with breast cancer (unrelated). Last year I had a lumpectomy surgery, chemo and radiation, and then an operation to get Donald out of my middle ear.
Now I have hearing loss, headaches, fatigue, a tremor, a drain in my head, peripheral neuropathy, and I struggle to come up with catchy fundraisers… Please give a little and share a lot!
Arohanui to my family, friends, colleagues and Brain Tumour Support!
Last update: $470! You can still share & donate 31 May 2023
In Brain Tumour Awareness Month, as we consider our grey matter, it’s suggested that we “Go Grey in May”. Today I dressed all in grey - bar my BTSNZ T-shirt and hat. I went to work, I made a cup of tea, I drove my car, I picked up a friend from the airport and I went shopping (just the essentials). I saw some raised eyebrows, but I definitely raised awareness! All the things I did today would have been impossible for me to do during certain stages of my brain tumour journey - and remain impossible for many in the brain tumour community. So I’d like to thank you for being part of Brain Tumour Awareness Month with me (and Donald), ask that you share my story and help raise awareness, donate/givealittle for the next week and PLEASE take a moment to appreciate what your grey matter does for you! Over Brain Tumour Awareness Month WE HAVE RAISED $470 for Brain Tumour Support NZ. That’s almost 5 of their wonderful Brain Boxes. BTSNZ have sent out 500 Brain Boxes altogether. I’m thrilled to be able to help them do their amazing work. Meanwhile, I have been hard at work, juggling life and fumbling fundraising challenges. I’m chuffed to share that I challenged myself to a surgery-free month. I made it! Woo hoo!!!
Omg! Thank you!!! Will definitely time my dressing up next year better!
Oh thank you darling!!! Blush!!!
