Help donate to animals that are victim to domestic violence or neglected and sent to a shelter this Christmas, no amount is too small.

Bay of Plenty

This time of the year can be quite tough for our animal shelters here in NZ.

With Christmas rolling around it is quite common for animals to be adopted and then neglected and put back into shelters... if they are lucky. Where as some pets are victims of domestic violence and need a safe home to stay until their surviving parent can find a new home or until the surviving pet can find a new home.

The SPCA only receives 5% of funding from the government and the rest is from donations. They need $47m to operate, $2.5m is funded by the government. To put that in perspective $30 will help vaccinate a rabbit, $210 will help give a puppy a warm bed for a week, $500 will help de-sex a litter of 5 kittens and $720 will provide dental care for 6 horses.

The Pet Refuge provides shelters for those pets that fell victim and abused to domestic violence. In 2018 Womens Refuge survey found 22% of their children witnessed pet abuse, 23% had an animal killed by their partner and 53% delayed leaving their abusive household for the fear of their pets.

Some may say they're just animals but to others they are just as important as us!
