Wow what an experience. I got it done, very emotional at the finish line. Big thanks to everyone who supported me. I hope you are all holding up well after the terrible weather. This page is open for donations until end of month.

Feeling pretty good. Trails are likely to be wet, which may slow me down a little, but nothing I cannot deal with. Had a good training sesh this morning, got a couple more beginning of the week then I'm gonna go and get it done.

Big thanks to all of you already donated. Getting real now. So many emotions! Training back on track and happy with where I'm at. Last trail run this weekend, then taper. Time to focus on the mental component, what can go wrong? How will I cope/manage? Don't forget you can also take part in my sweepstake to guess my finish time for just $20. $10 to winner and $10 to Diabetes New Zealand.

  • Training update

Not so many pics from training at the moment, I haven't really been stopping to take any. Averaging 40-60kms a week for last 4 weeks. I did a half marathon (21.1kms) on Christmas Eve in about 3 hours with a good friend. Picture below is after a 3 hour trail run a couple of weeks ago. My biggest training run will be NYE. Aiming for about 30kms.

  • why Diabetes New Zealand?

      4 December 2022

Why am I raising money for Diabetes NZ? This illness has seriously impacted my family. I am in awe of my niece who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and managed all the learning required with that. She independently manages this herself, and just gets on with it. She is strong, sassy and beautiful, she is my inspiration.

Diabetes New Zealand supported her and her whanau as she went through the steep learning curve of managing this. They advocate for awareness, education, more assistance and research.

Still training. Remembering my why. Looking back at where I have come from (couch, unhealthy) to where I am now (moving, feeling stronger). Focusing on some strength training and slowly safely increasing distance. Aiming for 25kms thiz weekend (over 2 runs)

It is Diabetes awareness month here in NZ and a good chance for you to reflect on how this condition impacts people living with it.

  • Not all fun

Training for 50km is not all sunrises and water views. Sometimes it's hard. Mentally and physically. Today was hard, but I did it anyway. I reminded myself people living with diabetes don't get to just pass on dealing with it. Keep sharing good folks and encourage others to give if they can. Tomorrow will be better.

Took my dog for a walk around some trails this afternoon and took some time to think about what people with diabetes live with. Take some time to check out Diabetes New Zealand socials this month. They do so much to help folks like my niece learn how to manage this condition.
