Mental Illness effects 50% off adults in New Zealand at some point in there lives.
Auckland
Mental illness is something that affects many kiwis. In New Zealand up to 50% of adults have suffered from a mental illness in their lives. That could be a colleague, friend or family member. Unfortunately the number of suicides in New Zealand is continuing to rise with 606 last year.
Wood For The Trees is a registered charity on a mission to help kiwis affected by mental illness. To do this they'll be providing funding to community organisations, creating awareness and open dialogue about mental illness, and to remove the stigma associated with it. Annually, Wood For The Trees will be running various activities such as boxing events, fishing competitions and the raffle of up to 6 brand-new Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Not only is the fight a huge personal challenge, it's about fighting for such a good cause that hits close to home for me. I have suffered myself along with watching friends and family struggle with their own mental illnesses. The statistics are high and I'm sure you all know someone struggling too!
If you feel you are unable to support emotionally then this is a great way to financially support to enable other support for people in need
Over 40 corporates will be stepping into the boxing ring to raise funds for Mental Health.
