On Wednesday 18th July 2018, we will be celebrating the launch of the annual appeal for Te Whare Pounamu, the Dunedin Women's Refuge.
The appeal seeks to raise funds for the Refuge so that they can continue to provide some of the most difficult, but essential, services to our community. In 2014, NZ Police recorded a family violence related call on average every five and a half minutes, yet it is estimated that only 24% of incidents are reported. 76% of all recorded assaults on women are committed by a family member. The Women's Refuge provides programs and education to help prevent domestic violence, provide shelter and safehouses to women and children fleeing from violence, and provide advice.
