Here is proof of my endeavors. Excuse the days where I forgot to take photos and had to to use other means to show my dunking. Also excuse my cropping of the images.

Aunty Rose - you are amazing and inspiring!

Thank you so much to you and your friends, colleagues and Poncho, those who have joined you over the month with dunking under everyday. Thank you for jumping into the cold water every day of September and dunking under for Moana-Rose to help her get to therapy in Melbourne. She is a cool wee kid and you and your fundraising support will make a difference.

We am very grateful for the support from you and your team, it is a huge help and inspiration and we are very grateful.

      Ngā mihi nui.

Yesterday was the last day of the month which means 30 days of dunking into cold water complete! Thank you for all of your support, donations, towel holding and to my fellow dunkers who joined me in braving the cold water.

Just know that you've helped a cool little girl to attend a rehabilitation programme that will help improve functions of her body and help her to live her best life.

Noticings from a month of dunking under:

    - The water felt like it got warmer (or my body became less sensitive to the cold)

    - I was surprised at how many others were willing to join me. I probably had company for at least half of my dips. It made me quite happy to see others enjoying the cold water and challenging themselves.

    - I feel like my overall mood has improved throughout the month.

    - I sort of missed the spontenaeity of going for a dip randomly.

    - I'm proud to have committed to this for a month. Habit making is something I struggle with and I think doing this for a good cause and having the accountability of others helped. It's also surprising that if you HAVE to fit something into your day you will find the time.

    - I'm not put off jumping into cold water, I still feel like going for a dip. I even went for one today!

I really appreciate all of your support over the last month. I hope I encouraged a few of you try dunking under or perhaps something else that is a challenge for you.

    Ngā mihi nui

  • Halfway there

Today was day 15 of dunking under which means I'm halfway through my challenge for the month.

Some of my highlights so far:

    - Enjoying nature in all weather. Scenes like this morning. Sure I'd be quite comfortable if I stayed snuggled up in bed but instead I got to enjoy a beautiful sunrise, swim in cool water with others and feel the nip of frost in the air.

    - Being joined by other adventurous souls brave enough to dunk under too.

    - Staying (slightly) longer in the water

    - Moana-Roses's excitement about Aunty Rose 'Dunking under'. She isn't usually keen to even watch others put their head underwater so I'm glad this may have helped her see it in a better light.

    Lessons learnt so far:

    - Hang up your togs straight away

    - Running before a swim is my favourite

    - It's easy to commit to something when you're doing it for a purpose

    - There is a difference between swimming because I feel like it, and swimming because I have to. But either way I do come out of the water smiling.

Thanks everyone for their support so far! All the fellow swimmers, towel holders and support through this page. I truly appreciate it. 15 more days to go!

  • Kicking off the challenge

To kick off the start of September and the start of this challenge I took my first dip off the plank on the Wellington waterfront today. I was joined by some brave colleagues and the all important camera person. The water was a little nippy but not cold enough to stop a second jump off the plank. I sent Moana-Rose a video of the action and at first she wasn't to keen watch her auntie 'Dunking under' but when she did eventually watch it she exclaimed 'I love that!'.
