Emergency Services staff push their own comfort zones for mental health and suicide awareness.
Rolleston, Canterbury
Over a 24 hour period on 5-6 November, over 40 staff from Police, St John, Fire and Emergency, Civil Defense and NZ Army will run a total of 4 hours each to raise funds for mental health and suicide awareness. Many of these people running have had to deal first hand with the fall out of mental health issues and they themselves are not immune to what they have to see and do.
Our goal is to raise $20,000 by running a continuous 250m indoor track. Each person has to run 4 x 1 hour blocks over 24 hours without stopping. Some will be running in full uniform, some with breathing apparatus or vests. Others will be happy just to get through! We want to push ourselves out of our comfort zone as we know there is light at the end of our tunnel, unlike many of those who we are raising funds for. Thank you for your donation.
Training update! 6 October 2022
Kia Ora all.
Just had a training run with Karl from FENZ, wearing his full kit, approx 23kg. He got through one hour with one oxygen tank! Great mahi from him! I managed 8km in my gumboots.
