Everest for Charity

  • Knocked the bugger off

      21 March 2018

    Yes

That is Sir Eds comment....I felt it suited this situation also.

Without the assistance of oxygen (could have used some) I reached the summit at 6:35 pm Tuesday 20th.

To all of my supporters I thank you.

A special shout out to my wife whom has put up with the tired old man that has been shuffling around in the early hours of the morning so i could finish the damn job.

Well done and congrats to those already finished

Good Luck to those still going

Thanks Waipuna Hospice for being there.

      20 March 2018

Finally..... I can see the summit....

One more climb to go and the task is complete.

If anyone is wondering the average (depending on how I use the stairs) each climb is the equivalent of 67 stories or flights of stairs. 38 climbs will equate nearly 2550 flights of stairs up and the same down. It does explain the aches and pains.

I do feel somewhat fitter and healthier which is great but even better I have raised a good amount for the Hospice.

    One to go......I cant wait....

  • Barrier Broken

      12 March 2018

Apart from the broken hips and leg pains I have I have broken through the mental barrier of double digit number of climbs left.

This morning at 5:27 I was at the summit completing climb 29

By my calculations that leaves nine more breathless moments on the Mount and I am done.

I have posted the official me in my official shirt.

Amazingly I get high fives when running down or questions like "how many mate" or" Where are you up to" Very soon I will be shouting last one

    Yeeeahhh

  • Leaving Base Camp

      5 March 2018

I've had my rest and acclimatised to the higher altitude and lack of oxygen. (wait is that shortness of breath)

Anyway I have now completed climb 22 and have posted a couple of shots of the Queen Mary at the port from the Mount.

Looked very stunning at Five am I must add.

    Until next time

  • Base Camp

      1 March 2018

This Morning at 5:30 I reached base camp.

19 climbs is half way I am told so that's BASE CAMP.

Now when scaling Everest, BASE CAMP is where we get to take some time out to rest. Maybe a day or two.

I have not quire decided yet...But just sayin.....

    Anyway Half way

    Yehaaa

  • Nearly Half Way

      28 February 2018

Completed climb 18 this am 28th Feb and hopefully will get the half way number completed and put away on the morning of the 1st March

Still amazed how many people are up very early and walking/Running up the Mount.

My age works a little against me....Sore hip at the moment and searching for a Zimmer frame.... thought it would get easier... ha.

Trying to ensure it doesn’t deter me by pretending I’m still twenty.

Hopefully one morning I can snap a pic where I’m not puffing and sweating with a cruise ship I the background. Big thanks to those helping the cause. 😊

I will update again in a few days.

New pics being posted as well

  • Everest is pretty high

    Main image

I have started strongly and even double up some days.

Not what I would call easy at my age but I keep the cause in the back of my mind when I am puffed out

Amazed at the number of people climbing the mount every day at the same time.

Some of the sunrises have been awesome to see and the cruise ships coming in add to the interest

Tuesday 20th am Its raining and slippery. Not much of a view as per the pic which is pretty bad but that's pretty much how it looked at the top

    Wed 21 Climb number 11

Saw a poor chap sprawled out on his face after a fall. Its dark and he had no lights on. Not sure about the wisdom of this at these early hours.

    28 climbs to go.

Climb Fourteen completed today, Sunday 25th.

I had a rest Friday, played golf Sat and slept so I have figured I’m either old or tired or both.

Either way I’m nearly half way. Sweet
