Fast and Furious

I work for Joyya in the ‘City of Joy’, Kolkata! We live a block away from the community we work with; a slum called Khal Par. These guys live on the sides of a canal in makeshift houses made from bamboo and tarpaulins. Life is hard for these guys - there's not much to work with, and there's a whole lot of stress.

Joyya has a business where people from Khal Par and other marginalised communities work. We believe a steady income and a job where employees are respected and encouraged is a good thing. Joyya has a collective where we provide education, health and legal support, social workers, kids programmes, tuition...the list keeps growing! We hang out in the community; have kids over to our house, run youth groups, let teens use our bikes to learn how to ride, bake birthday cakes birthdays; just do normal life within the community.

Joyride is for the kids of communities like these. We'll use funds raised for things like our kids clubs, outings like going to the movies, or hiring a bus to get to an indoor playground. We want to take the teenagers to a beach for the weekend; your support will go towards train tickets and accommodation. Extra cash will not go to waste -I have a long list of kids who have signed up for language classes! We'll put cash into textbooks, I.T equipment and resources.

All kids deserve and need a bit of fun and a few moments to forget about the many disadvantages they are facing.

I'm gonna be biking with my kiddos around Kolkata in October to raise cash.
