Apologies for the delay in the final update. Although I finished up Coronet Peak, I managed to pick up an infection of some sort in the last couple of days of the ride.

Despite feeling under the weather, I had a magic couple of last days. Heading off from Omarama we headed over the Lindis Pass, through Tarras and then through to Wanaka. The descent off the Lindis was magical. Our final day dawned fine, but forecasts were for rain later in the day. The climb over the Crown Range was tough, in particular the last couple of kilometres, but was only a taste of what was to follow. Coronet Peak certainly lived up to expectations and was 8kms of pain.

Post ride celebrations were held at the Skyline. Amongst speeches and awards we were pleased to hear that we had raised well over $150,000 and that we would be able to bring four schools into the Kidscan programme.

This is a fantastic result an we are all proud of our achievements.

I am glad that I have taken part in an event that not only has been great fun, but will also result in tangible outcomes for kiwi children in need.

Once again thank you for your donations and best wishes.

    Simon

  • 1 Day to go!

      22 March 2016

We are almost at journey's end. We had an absolute magical day yesterday going up to Benmore dam and were shown around by the wonderful people at Meridian. The cycle back was tough, but rewarding. Some video footage below of the yellow jersey getting egged on by the crowd lining the last hill climb.

Today we rode out of the Mackenzie country into Central Otago. Wanaka put on a stunning day. The descent into Tarras and Wanaka respectively we awesome. I jumped too early for the Tarras sprint.

Off to tackle the crown range tomorrow.

  • Day 1

      20 March 2016

The FFC charity ride is underway. We had a fantastic first day riding from Christchurch to Geraldine.

180 km across the Canterbury plains. The weather gods played their part and turned on a cracking day with a mainly tail wind. A bit of a hill through the rakaia gorge. Two groups contested the road. Fantastic fun.

Will have some footage to come.

  • Only five sleeps to go

      14 March 2016

Getting very excited as we get closer to the start of the ride.

Fantastic news this week that we have just passed the $100,000 mark which means we can help 2 schools (an additional school for every 50 K) by getting them into the KidsCan programme. We will push on for as much as we can.

We have also had some great publicity over the past week. Check out our video and we have also been featured online http://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/news/hutt-valley/77838813/fat-fathers-social-cyclists-gear-up-for-long-haul-ride-for-kidscan

I will post more updates closer to and while on the event.

  • New kit arrives

      27 January 2016

This month signals the start of the real preparation. If you are about Wellington you will see plenty of the tour lads about in our new kit. A great new addition to the cycling gear drawer.

Traveling over summer means that some great training rides can happen. Waitangi weekend will be the Picton / Blenheim / Havelock loop and a wedding in the Wairarapa gives a great opportunity to ride over the Rimutakas.

    Look out for further updates.

  • Fund raising update

      17 November 2015

Thanks to everyone who has donated.

Things are really taking shape for our event next year and there are some exciting developments. We have secured $40,000 in corporate sponsorship from 10 sponsors and have now surpassed our first $50,000 raised (incl sponsorship). For every $50,000 raised equates to one school going onto the Kidscan programme.

Our kit has been designed! (attached). We'll certainly look good as we hit the tarmac.

A huge thanks to our sponsors, who are providing cash to go directly to Kidscan and helping us achieve our goal. Sponsors include:

Gold Sponsor – Meridian – not only have they made a major contribution but they have paid the entry fee for 2 staff to join us!

Silver Sponsors - Spark Digital and EMC both of whom were really passionate about the cause.

Bronze sponsors – Thanks to all of our bronze sponsors (primarily members of the ride) for their generous support!

    Inside recruitment

    New Balance

    Area 3

    Iride

    AJ Park

    Duo / Checkpoint

    Tuatara

The riding is going well. Looking forward to round Taupo in a couple of weeks.
