FFC Ride 4 KidsCan

  • Final Day

      24 March 2016

What an awesome way to finish. We climbed the Crown Range which would be the hardest climb I have ever done to then descend down to Arrowtown and then climb up Coronet Peak - which became the hardest climb I have ever done. We got a bit of rain on Coronet but given the rest of the week there were no complaints. Couple of hairy moments coming down from the Crown Range with two people's back tyres exploding - possibly due to the heat from the brake-pads. Bit hairy but no damage was done thank goodness.

Overall it was a great experience - the scenery was amazing, the riding was hard and challenging, the team were great so everything worked out. And the best news was that we raised around $150k for KidsCan which will take 3 schools off the waiting list and help 750 kids get the basic necessities that they need. Awesome.

  • Day four

      22 March 2016

another awesome day. Started at omarama and gradually climbed up to the lindis pass. Flew down the other side and then carried into Tarras before heading to wanaka.

Another awesome day of scenery and good weather and the biking was good too.

Last day tomorrow which includes the crown range and coronet and maybe some weather which isn't so flash. Legs are tired but enjoying the experience

  • Day three

      21 March 2016

What initially was meant to be the easy day it turned out to be long, hot and tiring. The pace was on from tekapo to omarama and I was eventually spat out of the group by the big boys. After lunch we went out to the benmore dam which was awesome but the ride out was uphill into a hot wind so somewhat jaded now. Another big day tomorrow -let's hope the pace isn't on the whole way. Weather is holding which is great

  • Day two

      20 March 2016

Shorter day today but the head/cross winds made it though. Yet another puncture - I have three of the total number of 4 punctures. Great.

Tekapo is nice with heaps of tourists around. Lots of interest in what we are up to.

Tried to ride up to the mount hood observatory only to be told bikes can't use the road. Oh well the scenery is awesome anyway.

Tomorrow is the run down to omarama with maybe some extra bits for the sponsor meridian. Weather is holding together which is great.

  • First day

      19 March 2016

Made it to Geraldine in very fast time thanks to a strong and hot tail wind. Lovely day for riding on the Canterbury roads with the only downer being two punctures. So much for my new robust tyres.

Everyone is a bit jaded but looking forward to tomorrow's ride to tekapo. There will be a few more hills but the weather looks ok again
