Help support Courtney in fighting for mental health awareness and preventions
Auckland
I've never boxed before. Let alone been in any fights. Doing something like this is well out of my comfort zone, which is perfect for the kind of place I want to live my life in order to show people that they really can do anything!
The fact that I get to do this in support of such an incredible cause is what drives me. Mental health is real and so many kiwis are affected by this daily - whether it be personally or indirectly.
There are many charities doing incredible things out there, and we all have something we've been affected by or care about. For me, when I found out this is the charity I get to support, not once did I think any other charity would be more fitting.
At the end of April 2 years ago, my brother committed subside at the young age of 27. No one saw it coming. The support he needed wasn't there and looking back now, it's all so clear. Offering support is easy. Reaching out to show people you care, is easy. Showing people they are loved and cared about is easy. When you are dealing with mental health, speaking up is hard. Having people you love know that things aren't actually okay, is really damn hard. Seeing a future outside of being in a difficult mental state, is really really hard. But not impossible.
To say 'I hope our statistics change' means nothing. These statistics ACTUALLY need to change. People need to know that they are not alone. Raising these funds can help in so many ways! Bring more into media. More into awareness and more into people understanding that there are support networks out there.
Im so grateful I get to do this for Wood for the Trees in support of mental health. So many kiwis are directly affected every single day with mental health, directly or indirectly and raising awareness is just the beginning. We are already aware our stats are high. Let's support Wood for the Trees in making a change to that.
Over 30 corporates will be stepping into the boxing ring to raise funds for Mental Health.
