Raising awareness for mental health in New Zealand
Auckland
On April the 27th I will be entering the ring to fight in support of “Wood for the trees” which is a charity that raises awareness for mental health amongst our peers in New Zealand.
I am fighting from a place where I have seen first hand, the effects this social underworld has had on friends and family. Growing up in an environment where mental health was made aware at a young age - seeing people in close surroundings make attempt’s at their own lives and coming to terms/trying to understand those who suffered from mental health.
In the shoes of my younger self I could not comprehend why these people brought themselves to do this, as I simply didn’t understand it. Through maturing and educating myself on the subject I came to learn that for these people, it was the easiest way out.
Initially when I signed up for this fight it was with good intention knowing it supports a great cause of some sort. On 3.03.2018, just 9 days ago I had a reality check as I found out an old friend, gorgeous, inside and out - had sadly taken her life. Today is her 24th birthday 12.03.2018 and I couldn’t be more motivated to get behind this charity and give it my best to help raise awareness - life is way too short.
I encourage everyone reading this to do their part by donating to help raise awareness and ultimately each donation helping to avoid the unthinkable amongst those suffering.
In return on the fight night you can expect me to show up ready to give it my best - the game plan is to out smart the guy and aggressively argue with him for the duration of the three, two minute rounds - Have taken boxing classes for safety reasons.
Win or lose - I just want to raise awareness and I appreciate everyone in support.
