Fundraising for Camp Quality New Zealand
Nationwide
In 2024 after finding a lump under my arm scans revealed that I had cancer with 30 tumours throughout my body. But instead of slowing down, I laced up my running shoes.
I started my immunotherapy treatment on a Friday and the very next day I ran in a 10-kilometre running event.
For me the alternative was lying in bed crying, and that just wasn’t an option. This year I have set myself a goal - to walk and run more than 300 kilometres across a range of endurance events, including all 10 races in the nationwide Aramex Walk + Run Series which makes up 107 kilometres of the total.
If I can use something that helps me … running and walking, to raise money and awareness for my chosen charity, then that makes every kilometre even more meaningful.”
Last year had some new challenges with a total of six surgeries over six months. But being outside on the trails with other people gave me such a boost mentally and physically.”
When you’re dealing with cancer it’s very easy to feel isolated.
But these events are incredibly supportive. I hope my challenge will encourage others facing difficult circumstances to keep moving in whatever way they can.
“Cancer takes a lot from you, but it doesn’t get to take my spirit.”
“If sharing my story helps raise money for Camp Quality or inspires someone else to get outside and keep going, then every kilometre will be worth it.”
