Riding to Invercargill from Queenstown to raise money for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter service.
Southland
I am riding for charity from Queenstown to Invercargill (245km as going via Gore) on the 7th of May 2021 to raise money for the Westpac rescue helicopter. Anything you can contribute is greatly appreciated for this event to raise much needed funds for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter service and the valuable service it provides for residents and visitors in New Zealand.
Lakes District Air Rescue Trust operates helicopters based in Te Anau and Queenstown that service the wider Southland area. Each Mission cost in excess of $5600 and last year the trust carried out over 18 missions per day. The cost to operate is $1.2 million each year and only 50% is funded by the Government and the balance comes from the community, general fundraising and the Westpac Chopper Appeal. Without the support of our local community we wouldn't have access to the lifesaving chopper in our area.
