It’s the last two days of the Classic 100.
Seeing a loved in palliative care is a confronting experience but what we found at hospice when Dad needed their care was a sunny room with a lovely view, extra long beds for tall firefighters, meals catered especially to him, flowers on his meal tray, a comforting and peaceful atmosphere, time for respite to be together as a family not caregivers, and most importantly kind, empathetic & skilled staff who dramatically increased Dad’s quality of life under their care.
It was also obvious at times how pressured hospices resources were. With only 10 beds for the whole of Northland, and countless numbers of patients in the community it was easy to see that they need more support.
Hospice need to fundraise almost $8,000 every day to make up the shortfall between government funding and keeping their support and care free.
Thank you for all of you who joined me or cheered me on this journey during March, and to those who had the resources to donate (thank you, thank you, thank you).
And the biggest thanks to my Dad Mark for sharing his love of community with me, let’s try make the world a better place for those who come after us. 🚒🤍🪽
Finally hit the halfway point today after getting sick early on in March! Let’s go! Thanks so much for all your generous donations to North Haven Hospice, Dad would be chuffed - he was a real community man. We are #2 on the leaderboard today as well, so thank you kindly. 🚒
