To fund an ADNZ Assistance Dog for Georgie

Bay of Plenty

At age 3 Georgie was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Global Developmental Delay and speech delay. She has just turned 5 and has started school part-time.

Georgie is fun, boisterous, loud and affectionate. She loves playing with her brothers Patrick (9) and Jack (8) and putting on her princess regalia like many little girls.

Unlike other girls of 5, she only speaks a few words so communicates with babble, noises and sometimes pictures. She has no awareness of personal safety or what dangers are around her. She also has no stranger danger. She has heightened senses so many 'normal' situations, like supermarkets, can be overwhelming.

ADNZ Assistance Dogs are especially trained to match the needs of their companions. As Georgie needs constant supervision and frequent restraint for her own safety, a special dog will give her:

* a measure of independence. We could have a family walk or trip without Georgie in a stroller or being held.

* increased safety. Being harnessed to the dog will stop her bolting or running into the road as the dog acts as an anchor.

*a focus in challenging/sensory overwhelming situations. The dog will be her calm companion.

*a positive point of interaction with strangers. The focus shifts from an 'odd' child with strange language/behaviour to a beautiful dog obviously working to help a child with different abilities.

*a constant, unwavering friend with no judgment or expectation.

We are so grateful that ADNZ exists to provide these amazing dogs to special kids like Georgie. We aim to raise $25,000 but every dollar more helps keep this great organisation running for others too.

Please make a donation to our cause today and help us achieve a dream to enable Georgie access to, and greater opportunities in the wider community.

Thank you.

Matthew, Liz, Patrick, Jack and Georgie.

We are parents to Patrick, Jack and Georgie and want all three to have great opportunities. With an ADNZ Assistance Dog, Georgie will be able to access and enjoy many more aspects of our community in a safer, more independent way.

The Amazing Helen Green!  29 March 2015

The very lovely Helen Green is running the Rotorua Marathon in early May and she's asking all her supporters to sponsor her through this page, so all the sponsorship comes to Georgie!!! I had goosebumps all over when she told me what she wanted to do and I still feel very emotional when I think or talk about her. What a selfless gift. The wonderful ladies at Assistance Dogs NZ are helping her with some branded kit so she'll be raising awareness on the day too. Thank you Helen, and all your friends and family who support you. we're grateful and very humbled by your gift. Liz
